This is to inform the FEFPEB membership on pending international developments.

ECONOMIC SANCTIONS BELARUS

FEFPEB did contact the European Commission and stipulated that there is a substantial import of (certified) timber originating from Belarus.
Economic sanctions on the wood sector in Belarus would lead to a serious negative impact for our industry, certainly in the current global turmoil on the timber markets.
The announcement by the European Council (24 June 2021) on further sanctions imposed on Belarus, does not include the wood sector and for now that is good news for our sector.

EXPORT BAN ON LOGS BY RUSSIA FROM 2021 ON

The attached appeal to the European Commission for DG Trade is supported by FEFPEB.

PROVISIONAL ANTI-DUMPING DUTY ON IMPORTS OF BIRCH PLYWOOD ORIGINATING IN RUSSIA / EU REGULATION 2021/940

This concerns <6 mm birch plywood, applied in the sub sector Industrial Packaging, used by companies in especially Germany and Italy and bought in Russia.

The complaint is raised by EU manufacturers of this type of birch plywood.

FEFPEB, in support of AssoImballagi, did object to any anti dumping measure but a temporary import duty of appr. 15% will be enforced.

See the accompanying EU Regulation 2021/940.

The impact of these developments will be on the agenda of the next meeting of the FEFPEB executive committee on 6 July 2021.

Any input or reflections from your part are most welcome, info@fefpeb.eu.
