FEFPEB membership

Dear FEFPEB member,

This to receive assembled information on recent legislative developments in Europe:

As indicated by mr M. Pellegrini (DG ENVI) at the congress in Firenze our industry awaites an avalanche of diverse types of legislation and regulations linked to the Circular Economy Action Plan,  one of the main building blocks of the European Green Deal, Europe’s new agenda for sustainable growth.

1. Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation / EC proposal

We did inform you on the recently published draft, see annex.

A FEFPEB Task Force Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is created to analyse the draft regulation and to build up a strategy for advocacy actions, covering all sub sectors pallets, Industrial packaging and light weight packaging.

The first meeting of this taskforce will be held next week.

FEFPEB welcomes any comments from its members and you will be kept informed on the further process.

2. Law to fight global deforestation

The European Commission received and welcomed a provisional political agreement just reached between the European Parliament and the Council on an EU Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains

See annex.

This law is causing global concern and it is a topic for the Global Forum Wood Packaging, with our global partners such as NWPCA and CWPCA.

CEI Bois, supported by FEFPEB, with other allies, made critical remarks  on the impact of this legislation in September 2022, see the attached letter.

 3. Implementation "FOR 50" Packaging rule for wooden packaging in Italy

Regarding the implementation of the “For 50” Packaging rule for wooden packaging, our industry remains confused and requires further clarification.

The enforcement date is postponed to 1 January 2023.

The link Conai Progettare Riciclo provides much information which shows a lighter regime for pallets and IP (B2B) as wooden crates.

AssoImballagi informed us that the publication of Environmental Ministry Guide Lines is awaited with Guidelines describing all details.

We keep you informed.
